Week 3 - Holiday Mode
Written by Tina Sibley in October 2021
This week was all about going on my first holiday since before the pandemic stopped travel. First stop Barcelona for a few days before embarking on a cruise ship on Friday for a Dance Cruise around the med. My first time in Barcelona and my first time cruising.
Monday 25th October
Today I had planned a busy day - with Spanish lessons, two lots of dance lessons, a workout and a massage planned.
However, I didn't sleep too well last night and woke up feeling really, really tired despite my rest day yesterday.
Finally, I decided to cancel everything exept for the massage and focus on packing and getting ready, since I didn't really do much in the way of packing yesterday. I did even fewer steps than yesterday (I didn't think that would be possible!)
Having got everything packed and ready, I had another night resting on the sofa watching TV.

Travelling day. I was really cross with myself as I twinged my back changing bin bags of all things. Nowhere near as bad as when I did it last time, and in a different place but annoying enough.
Once I had completed my last minute chores and packing, I drove to Malaga where I booked my car into parking and took the shuttle to the airport.
It was a short, easy, uneventful flight and then I took a taxi to my airbnb. I wandered around getting my bearings, and some coffee supplies and then went out to an Italian Restaurant in the evening while I planned my tour of Barcelona tomorrow.

Wednesday 27th October
My back was really hurting this morning so I have had to abandon thoughts of doing any floor workouts for the time being.
However, I did a LOT of walking. I walked down to the port area and explored that for a while before taking a Tuk Tuk ride around Barcelona, where I saw pretty much everything on my list.
Then I took a leisurely walk up La Rambla to the Plaza de Catalunya before walking back to my Airbnb.
My back wasn't great so I stayed in during the evening to rest, which was a good call.

Thursday 28th October
Got another lot of walking in today. I met up with one of my cruise companions and we walked to the port and up La Rambla again to Plaza de Catalunya and back. Then I walked through some parks up a hill overlooking the port area and then to Montjuivic gardens and fountains. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily I walked up a massive set of steps without feeling too breathless.
Then in the evening it was back to Plaza de Catalunya to meet others from the cruise for dinner and then dancing. The dancing was at a great club called Mojito and we had a salsa lesson and then danced until the small hours. I loved it but had to leave relatively early to get up early to board ship in the morning.

Friday 29th October
Up early today to get a taxi to the port to board ship. The boarding process was easy and I met up with some of the people I'd met at the club last night. We all had a compulsory covid test and then after boarding, we explored the ship, which was absolutely massive. Costa Firenze is a new ship and I was surprised by how big it is.
We had lunch in the restaurant, then a welcome meeting, and a bachata lesson - otherwise it was settling into the cabin, which was gorgeous, and unpacking.
Dinner was incredible - and continued to be incredible every day - I have never eaten so much in all my life. It will be a miracle if I don't put on at least 7lbs on this trip!!
After dinner, we danced until around 2am and had a great time. It was especially wonderful being able to dance with the highest level teachers.

Saturday 30th October
Up early today for our excursion to Marseilles. The weather was really, really unkind to us - it literally tipped down with rain and was really cold. I packed totally the wrong clothes - strappy summer tops, no fleeces or rain clothes at all. I had to make an emergency shopping trip to buy a fleece and a jacket!
Marseilles is a pretty port with an impressive cathedral but unfortunately the bad weather made for a bit of a miserable morning.
We were happy to get back to the ship where we could escape the rain and cold, have a late lunch and then a bachata sensual lesson with Korke y Judith before changing for dinner.
After dinner, we were treated to shows by the teachers and then dancing until around 3am! :-)

Sunday 31st October
Today was a lovely excursion to the port of Savona in Italy. We went from there to Finalborgo, a very pretty medieval town in the hills and then Noli, a very pretty port. I made a new companion on this excursion and it was great to be forced to practice my Spanish! It was still cold and wet today but thankfully, most of the rain was while we were on the bus and we managed to escape it while walking around.
Another bachata lesson with Korke y Judith back on the ship, then time to get ready for the Haloween night. Dinner and, of course, more dancing.

It was difficult this week to get any real training done as I literally had no time to myself whatsoever. What little time I did have, I was pretty exhausted! I managed to do a few 'dead bug' exerecises, some plank and crunches, but not much more.
I did however, do a lot of walking and made sure to walk up stairs where possible instead of using the escalator or lifts.
