Jebel Musa

We will not be going to the summit of Jebel Musa but to a special 'Mirador' or viewpoint where the views back over the Straits of Gibraltar and the Rock itself are stunning. This is a steep hike, but there will be lots of opportunity to take a rest and catch your breath.

Rif Mountain Hikes

The hikes on day 2 and day 3 are not as steep as day one, but they're longer. We will be hiking for approximately 5 hours on day 2 and 15km on day 3. Day 4 is an easy, non-hiking day with a walking tour of Chefchaouen.

Physical Fitness

Although this trip is good for beginners to hiking, it does require an element of physical fitness.

Part of the experience is about doing more physically than you normally would. Experienced hikers are welcome - you will find this fairly easy if you're a seasoned hiker or walker but that gives you even more opportunity to reflect and take the opportunity to work on yourself and your goals.

Regular walking is one of the best ways to prepare, increasing frequency and length, as you get closer to the adventure. All aerobic exercises including cycling, running and swimming are good for strengthening the cardiovascular system. Generally, any exercise that increases the heart rate for 20 minutes is helpful but don’t over do it just before the trip.

Altitude and Acclimatization

None of the hikes on this trip are at altitude. The mountains we will be hiking are well below the level where you would feel the effects of altitude.

Altitudes are generally defined as follows:-

High altitude 2,400m – 4,200m

Very high altitude 4,200m – 5,400m

Extreme altitude above 5,400m (Uhuru peak is 5,895m)

The pace of the hikes will be fairly easy and there will be frequent rests for reflection as well as to catch your breath and take photos.
